A glimpse at life!

Sometimes life just seems way to surreal! I have been catching up on a few blogs lately, and its made me realise how truly lucky I am to have two healthy and hopefully happy children. There are so many families out there that have suffered such terrible loss through the death of a child, I can only imagine the pain and torture of loosing someone you love so much and so dearly.

Its funny how people go on and on about not realizing real true deep selfless love until you have children. I really would throw myself in front of a bus or go to the ends of the earth to protect my children from getting hurt if I could. It is such an indescribable feeling, I would do anything for them absolutely anything. I guess that is why the tears flowed so freely when both Amber and Aidan entered this world. I can truly say I have never felt such pure love as I did at that moment when I first lovingly gazed into there eyes and held there tiny little hands in mine.

I have always been attracted to the nursery rhyme "Twinkle twinkle little star" and it is the song I have always sang to comfort both my children. They are my little stars and they both twinkle oh so brightly. Amber was so fascinated when she was little by the moon and the stars, we would often go out at night and just stare for hours up in the sky watching them twinkle and shine. We are certainly a nocturnal family and maybe that is why we all seem so calm and in our happy place when we go for our evening walks every night. Aidan is only 5 months old but I have never heard him whinge once when we go for our walks.

I know that sometimes I spoil them a little too much but it comes from a pure place and it brings me so much joy making them smile or when they jump for joy at the prospect of something that seems so trivial to us as adults. So this post is for my two amazing children, you bring a smile to mummy and daddy's face and bring endless sunshine into our world every single day, thank you my sweet, sweet darling little girl and boy you have captured our hearts and our minds and for that we feel so truly blessed. We feel so fortunate that we get to share our lives with you both and we cherish every minute of the day that you choose to share with us.......may snakes and ladders live on forever.

We love you both to the moon and back always xx.

Its that time of the year again!

I thought I might start this post with my above friend, I don't know whether it is the colour of our walls inside the house or what but I have never seen so many butterflies and dragonflies come inside for a visit! I thought I would take a photo as proof!

Well it has been and passed without too much fuss (thank goodness), but I am now creeping a little closer to the big 40! I turned 36 on the 7 and it just blows my mind to think that I am over half way through my 30s. It is so true what they say about not feeling your age, I still feel 25 years old most days ! Look at that gorgeous cake on the right, (hubby made it for me and I am impressed as it is the first time that he has ever baked, so I feel very honoured, and it tasted yummy) so babe I was very impressed! I was looked after all weekend and had a lovely time, thank you David, Amber and Aidan for making mummy's birthday such a special one, I feel so blessed to have such a beautiful family to celebrate a day like today with xx.

I had a lovely day and Mum and Barry put on a lovely dinner with all the family. A big thank you to you both it was a lovely evening.

Emma and Amber just play beautifully together, I think they will be not just cousins but wonderful friends for life. All the babies are growing up so fast, it amazes me how fast time is going with our second. It seemed to go in slow motion with Amber, but that has probably something to do with her being our first and every little development seemed to put myself and David into a semi tail spin!


Its hard to know sometimes whether I reacted to early with every little thing that happened with Amber, as she only needed to peep and I came running, poor Aidan has to suck it up and wait most days as life just gets to crazy busy sometimes. He is such a happy little thing, he doesn't get up set very often, it is hard to say whether that is because he is the second child and I am more relaxed or whether it is just his nature. To be fair to Amber though, she was a very happy baby it had more to do with her neurotic mother, who used to freak out with even the smallest cry! I am sure all this will change very soon with the first tooth, so I am glad I wrote this down, as one bad night and everything is forgotten lol!


Well Aidan is cruising along at the moment and I don't think it will be too long before he is crawling (scary stuff)! He is now up on his all fours and rocking, it is so cute and totally new experience for us as Amber was a bum shuffler. Our house is so not child proofed anymore, so I think we will have to get moving on that one asap.

WONDERFUL NEWS!

We had a wonderful day watching the Oscars live for the first time in Australian history at Jim's place and David was kind enough to take Amber to be tested again regarding her peanut and tree allergy at the hospital. For the first time she came up negative with all the tree nuts and with peanuts she has gone from a 6 to 1 (the scale is 0 to 8, 8 being the most servere) in the last several visits! This was the news we never thought we would ever hear as she has been anaphlaxsis since she was 2 and has to carry an epipen with her everywhere she goes. It would be heaven to not have to read any more labels and see that lovely line on nearly every grocery item that says "May contain traces of nuts and peanuts".


We have to wait another 18 months and then they will feed her nuts in a controlled environment, but it certainly gives us hope, which is something that we did not think was ever going to happen and would take a huge burden off the poor little things shoulders, so we are certainly counting down the days now! There is such a low chance statistically of growing out of this allergy so we are just over the moon at this result!

So this news could change our lives in the best way possible and that is more than we could have ever asked for!

Amber is settling into school very nicely and loves going every day, even if she is very tired and doesn't want to wake up, all I have to say is "Do you want to miss school", and she is up out of bed and running down the hall! She had her first project that she had to take home two weeks ago which was to make a A3 poster all about herself and her family. Lets just say someone went to bed and someone stayed up half the night gluing and pasting it together, I guess this is only the start of many projects over the next 13 years lol. Pretty happy with the results and I am sure I could of helped her fill a whole look with all the photos that we had selected!

We madly spent the night before looking for a family photo and scummed to rounding the family up and putting the timer on the camera and then dashing to all get in the photo and obviously unsuccessfully have everyone look at the lens, it nearly worked lol!

Amber's school had a beach party two weeks ago to raise money for the school and unannounced to myself they brought all the preppies up on stage to introduce them. I had face painted Amber and Darcy's faces earlier that afternoon and Miss Amber would not let me wash it off, so that is why her face looks like that (and don't look to close as it is not the best job), but up on stage right at the front for all to see was our proud grown up girl! Oh well she was happy with herself and her spiderman looking face and that is the most important thing......isn't it?

Amber also had a get together with her pre-prep teachers Lisa and Bronny and all the kids from her class in the park last week, gee it was lovely to see everyone, such a lovely group, they had such a fun time, just made me miss last year and how special it really was!

Amber had a day off today from school as we had a photo shoot with the Bettina modelling agency which both Amber and Aidan are now a part of. Just before Christmas while shopping at Brookside there was a talent scout and they were giving away one year free to a child with them. I decided to enter and then didn't think again about it until, I received a phone call from them. They didn't win, no surprise there as I thought it was probably to just suck you in.
But as they were chosen to come along for an interview I thought I would check it all out. I am a big believer of fate and things happening for a reason. I am trying to use my gut feeling more often these days as it is usually right and I just had a good feeling about this company they seem very proffesional and have a huge client base, so we thought we would give it a go for 12 months!


Anyway they only recruit a certain number of children from each age group and if they don't get you any casting calls in the first 12 months the next year is free. So we thought what the hell, no matter what it would be a great experience for Amber and hopefully a confidence builder and it is always healthy to learn how to take instructions and talk in front of people! So here we are for better or worse and
anticipating what the next 12 months will contain! I am kind of excited myself, even if it means a lot of running around, I have to say we are used to it anyway,as I always seem to be running the kids around to something anyway so it can't be that much different.

I think the biggest event of the day wasn't the photo shoot but finding the perfect outfit before we had even left! We changed approximately 10 times lol! I think we picked the right outfit.........if not we had fun dressing up! Poor Aidan even got subjected too a couple of changes!

So the photo shoot was today and David came along also, it was a great shoot and they took some stunning photos, I tried to take some of my own once we arrived home but I think it was a little ambitious as Aidan was a little tired and whiny. But I thought I would post a couple of my piccys anyway! At least I can feel that my clothing fetish with Amber has paid off at least once now. Now I only need to repeat that another 1000 times and I will back on track lol!

Well it is back to reality now and to school and work, and I have to say 2009 is certainly starting out in an interesting direction, who knows what is around the corner............cant wait to find out!!

Amber took the above photo, with our camera, she also had birthday money from David's family and decided she would love a camera so on the weekend we went out and purchased a gorgeous pink samsung one for her. Well I have never seen her so excited, she must have taken ( no word of a lie) 200 photos when we went out for our walk last week of every single flower in bloom. She is not to bad behind the lens either. (Well there are no heads cut off anyway)! I will post some photos soon of her handy work!

I had to show this photo as this of one of our walks in the early evening. Amber likes to run at the beginning and this is what has been happening by the end lol! Some how I think that she is a little to big for the pram with her legs hanging over, don't you think!

I forgot to mention through all this craziness that Aidan started soilids two weeks ago. Firstly with rice cereal and then he discovered fruit gel, which was a favorite of Ambers, which he has taken a liking to also. It took me two weeks but I have finally started making my own pureed food for him and he seems to be liking everything, except he wasnt that fond of the pumpkin from last night and I cant really blame him there, I am not terribly fond of it either.

I had to laugh though he is so inquisitive he is already trying to feed himself lol, two weeks in and he is already trying to be independant, I think I am going to have a little bit of a challenge on my hands soon. Lucky it is really cute at the moment!

Aidans first words!

It has been so crazy over the last couple of weeks in the lead up to Amber's birthday and everything else that is going on, I haven't really had a chance to talk about or reflect on anything else!

Its funny how things happen sometimes. Aidan spoke his first word a couple of weeks ago, and it took us totally by surprise as he is only 4 months old and David had only just arrived home from working over in the Solomon Islands so I hadn't really spent that much time one on one with him, as I hardly had time to scratch myself with David being away. So when we arrived home from the airport we seriously couldn't believe our ears when he dropped the word DA DA DA DA as clear as day! We had to wait a couple of days to make sure we weren't imagining it all! It should be no surprise as he is a serious little chatterbox(and I thought boys were the silent ones, boy was I wrong).

Not that I like to compare, but I couldn't help myself as I wanted to see when Amber spoke her first word and we had to wait until around 7 months for that. I can't really call this either Amber or Aidan's first word really as they both started saying hello(no word of a lie) at around a month old. We had to ask other people if we were imagining it. It might have something to do with the fact that the first word both my children ever heard from me was always hello little man, or hello gorgeous obviously I am very unoriginal with my conversations to my children.

Aidan had his immunisations a week ago and the receptionist and doctor couldn't believe how clearly he was saying DA DA. The receptionist had to pick Aidan up and show him off to the other doctor in the surgery. I don't think he is going to be a boy genius or anything, but hopefully he will be a good communicator, I will probably be regretting teaching him how to speak in several months time as I probably won't be able to shut him up lol, but at the moment it is just plain adorable!

Its funny how no one believes you and thinks that your just talking up your own children, but anyone that knows me, knows that that is as far from the truth as you can get for me! Well the truth be told Aidan was born into a household full of family members that like to talk and have there say lol! So watch our little lion roar as there is no stopping him now!!!


I can't believe how fast he is growing, sometimes I wish that I could slow everything down knowing this will be my last child and I just want to soak up every little thing and it's just going way to fast! Aidan has the most beautiful personality he is such a jolly sweet natured little boy, I am just enjoying and trying to savour every minute. Well maybe not every minute as I have to sleep sometime, even when he wakes me several times during the night he just has to roll over and smile and flash those baby blues my way and I just can't be annoyed! I think he has his mummy wrapped around his finger already!!!!

Amber's 5th Birthday!

Well how grown up is our little girl now! I can't believe that 5 years have passed and a whole new phase of her life is about to begin! I have to say that it has taken me a week to post this as I was absolutely worn out after her party. It was a lot of hard work but it was worth every second to see my little girls face beaming all day with that glow and childish joy that can only come from a five year old on her birthday, it makes the hours I spent on her cake up until 4.30am the morning before on her poodle cake all worth while. I do have to say though after icing cupcakes for the party and for her school cake, if I ever see another cupcake again it will be too soon lol!

Thank goodness I had assistance with the party bags and decorations thank you so much to David's parents especially his dad who was up half the night with us perfecting the cake and making sure that the goody bags were sorted out fairly! The house sparkled and the accent of pink and blue throughout the house was any little girls fantasy!

The day went off with out a hitch, it was a little warmer than planned and a lot of liquid was consumed, but I think everyone had a great time. Amber spent the whole two and half hours trying to convince all her little friends that it would be a great idea to go for a run under the sprinkler..................this was a good idea in theory but it was not part of the invitations lol, but this did not stop her trying to hand out her swim wear collection to anyone that was willing. We thankfully talked her out of this option at least until the games had been played, the cake cut and the food consumed. Unfortunately the party was basically over by this stage but thankfully she managed to squeeze in a little sprinkler action with her cousin Emma and her best friend Darcy. Probably a perfect way to finish off a humid sticky day..........................if I was smart enough I should have joined her lol!

Well Amber received some beautiful things and her first bike off her Grandma and Poppy B, which she was certainly rapt about. She received many beautiful pink things which went down a treat and what would a 5 years olds birthday be like without a few princess things!

I think that the highlight to the party was certainly the face painting, we invited Mark who works for David come along with his talented wife(and their business) plus their gorgeous daughter to work up a treat, where everyone and not just the Little's got their face painted as there were quite a few big kids that came out with some interesting artwork on their faces also!

I think someone was just plumb worn out by all that was going on lol!



Well Amber certainly had the chance to celebrate her birthday several times, as her real birthday fell on Monday so we had a little celebration at school were I took some cupcakes up to school to share with all her class and her teachers Mrs Argyris and Mrs Bee. It is always strange celebrating at school when her birthday falls at the beginning of the year, as so many faces are new but we were lucky this year as 6 of her fellow pre-prepers are in Amber's class this year, which was just fabulous for so many reasons, cause at least when I looked around the room I could see several familiar faces. Amber was so excited to get up in front of the class and have them sing happy birthday to her, while she blew the candles out. She also got to select who would get the first pick of the cupcakes, which was very cute.

I also heard that a couple of her little friends that went to her party fought tooth and nail not to wash their faces the night before in case they washed their face pianting off, now that is so cute(maybe not for the parents lol, but I secretly had a little chuckle.) I am sure they will pay me back soon enough!







And last but not least we had a little celebration at home with just mummy, daddy and Aidan with a cake (sponge with no icing, unfortunately I left the cake out of the fridge to long the day before and it wasn't holding up to well), thankfully we were all caked out so we were not to devastated when we decided to miss the cake eating part, which was probably good for our health really lol! Amber finally got to open her presents from us and like usual she was spoilt rotten. She had been asking for this Ariel Doll and all her family(for anyone who is not in the know and doesn't have their own little princess in their house, this is the mermaid princess from "The Littlest Princess"), Amber has been going on and on about this doll set for about 8 months, thank goodness I managed to track one down (the last one, phew at Big W, last June), so she has been over the moon, she finally has Prince Eric, what else could a girl ask or dream for!















I think all up Amber had an amazing birthday, and I hope one day when she is much older she can look back on this and remember her 5th birthday with fond memories, I know I will as it was the day I lost my little girl and meet this new little lady that now blesses my life.
